Ghetto Foundation is a community-based organization in Mathare that focuses on capacity building, community-led research, advocacy, and mentorship of youths and women in Nairobi’s informal settlements through training, on socio-economic well-being, human rights through the weekly political class. Ghetto foundation has been able to reach out to 600 families in mathare where the main focus was on the sick both in the hospital and at home, youths, elderly, women and the people living with disability.

In addition to cash transfers, ghetto foundation has also been doing food donations to the members of the community. We’ve been able to reach out to over 700 families in mathare depending on the donations that we receive from friends and well-wishers.

Lastly, we’ve been able to set up handwashing stations in Mathare where the youths within the areas where the stations are located have taken charge initiating this program as we involved them from the start of the project.

Ghetto foundation has also been creating awareness on reproductive health and rights through our social media platforms and also the use of posters to educate the community members on the corona virus awareness.
