The LOVEvabo Project
One Calinog Organization
Location: Philippines (Calinog, Iloilo)
The “LOVEvabo Project” is the second initiative of the One Calinog Organization, a youth organization, in Calinog, Iloilo, Philippines, that aims to provide and promote public awareness on the importance and practice of hand washing as a primary and sustainable intervention in the fight against COVID-19.
The LOVEvabo comes from 2 words, LOVE for the people and LAVABO or (Spanish term for washing basin) as the main function or purpose of the project as public hand wash station.
The Materials used are from the industrial waste materials like old metal drums and household waste like old water jugs. Our organization has worked through its partnerships and engaged citizens in the Calinognon community to gather hardware materials. These materials are all recycled and we are happy to say that we are into green environmental engineering projects.
As a small but active youth group situated in the hinterlands of Panay Island in the Western Visayas Region. One Calinog Organization is aggressive in advocating hand washing because it is the only means for which we can remind people in central Panay about the limitations of the island in access to goods and health services. Hand washing is more practical and budget friendly, and according to studies, it is also the most effective mechanism to combat COVID 19.
Colorful Flowers are painted for the people to feel that amidst this crisis, there is still a brighter tomorrow. The designs are patterned to the locally found flowers in our municipality. By this, we are not just promoting hand washing, but also our local tourism.
As an organization, One Calinog’s goal is a COVID-FREE CALINOG. That’s the reason why we are initiating projects as a solution to address and to maintain the ZERO Case status of our municipality. We’ve started with our 1st project which is “The Mask Project” where we have produced 2,000 localized cloth masks for our frontliners in the district hospital, Rural Health Units, Police Officers and Checkpoint Personnel and a lot more. As a nonprofit organization, what we also aim is to inspire others that even though we have no funds, we can still provide solutions as long as we find one another, and help each other.
The organization has already deployed 15 LOVEvabos in various frontline areas like the public hospital, public markets, checkpoint areas and the local government hall. The project gathered positive feedback not just from our locality, but also in the whole Philippines as it was featured in the nationwide news. The impactful response of the people serves as our fuel to do more for the benefit of the community and we hope that by this, we serve as an inspiration to all groups or individuals to help our fellow kababayans by extending our service and provide solutions especially in this pandemic that we are facing today. We believe that there’s nothing impossible as long as we have the heart to serve.
Today, Calinog is ZERO in PUM and PUI cases.
