Girl Up Kenya Coalition

Girl Up Kenya Foods and Hygiene Essentials Drive

Location: Kenya

Girl Up is an initiative of the UN Foundation that empowers girls in education, leadership, advocacy through trainings, providing mentorship and resources, equipping them to become change-makers. The Covid-19 outbreak has caused disruptions to the lives of people all over the globe, more so to the lives of young girls. Girls in Kenya are at the risk of facing Early marriages, sex exploitation, hunger, child labour or even getting infected with COVID-19.

We have the Girl Up Kenya Ambassador Ms. Nana Gecaga who is spearheading the initiative. We are raising funds to help provide over 10,000 Girls with Dry foodstuffs such as cereals, sugar, porridge flour, sugar, oil and so forth. We also intend to provide hygiene essentials which will include sanitizers, soap, clean water, tissues, sanitary towels and masks. We currently have a team of 30 young ladies who range from Community Leaders, to group leaders and club members. We are strong but together we are stronger.

Support

In order for us to cover 10,000 Girls from all over Kenya we would need over $25,000. Each pack that every girl will receive will be able to sustain her and her family for a period of 1-2 months comfortably. Each pack will cost us $250. So our budget in total is $30,000.

With the help of our Ambassador we have reached out to many corporate organizations, the government, individuals to help out. We also started a fundraiser through UN Foundation website to help raise funds.

We would love to have women changemakers from any field to collaborate with us to make content to inspire and motivate girls during this time.

Other Support: Volunteers, Access to information.
