IFMSA Medical Studenst Worldwide Covid-19 Response

Location: Global

Medical students today are taking the lead against COVID-19. Many national organizations are engaged to educate people, and control the virus spread. Meanwhile, IFMSA on the global level is focusing on educating its members and medical students and empowering them to play a better role locally. We also are collaborating with partners to raise youth and people's awareness.

IFMSA has dedicated its efforts to fight COVID-19 and we assemble most of our action on our website (ifmsa.org/covid19).

First, to educate health students, we shared an open library drive folder of updated trusted resources, a spreadsheet of useful webinars, a list of online courses, and a spreadsheet of national reference websites and hotlines. We also designed and shared a training module for medical students to be prepared and able to deal with the situation at home, in community and in healthcare settings.

Second, we collaborated with our partners to raise awareness and educate youth. We are participating in the webinar series by the UN youth envoy along with UNICEF and WHO, we also are partnering with UNFPA and PREZI in the #youthagainstcovid campaign. We are also working with WHO on mapping and sharing links of fact-checking organizations to fight misinformation and myths.

Third, we developed and facilitated multiple webinars about COVID-19, role of medical students, coping with the actual situation, educational systems adaptations and COVID-19 and other topics.

Fourth, our members are engaging in many countries along with health ministries and UN and WHO offices on national action plans against COVID-19 and we have developed a world map and a folder in our library to share their best practices and activities.

Fifth, we also did surveys for students to identify their perception and different roles they play during this pandemic, and also to map medical education systems adaptation measures to COVID-19, results were shared in a world map in our website.

Sixth: We are working on blogposts and articles related to COVID-19 and different global issues related to SDGs and health, such as SRHR, planetary health, mental health, inequalities, vulnerable populations and other topics.

Seventh: We are sharing with students access to multiple free educational platforms that was offered by our partners for them to study home in an optimal way.

Eighth: We did a press release that can be found on our website
