Our Response: At the Nexus of Human Rights, Gender, and Health in the CoVid-19 Humanitarian Response

Location: Regional (Asia-Pacific)

This dialogue, organized by Youth Voices Count, the United Nations Major Group for Children & Youth, and the Asia Youth Peace Network, hopes to discuss the nexus of human rights, gender, and health in the humanitarian space. The CoVid-19 pandemic has exposed much of the weaknesses of states in responding to national health crises. The lack of sustainable and reactive health and humanitarian policies has left many marginalized communities suffering from the effects brought about by CoVid-19. Marginalized groups such as sexual and gender minorities (i.e. women and LGBTIQ), those in rural settings and informal economies, and adolescents and youth, are the most affected.

This dialogue hopes to bridge that gap in knowledge and collaboration between individuals and organizations primarily working on sexual and gender rights and those at the forefront of peacebuilding and humanitarian responses. Through this dialogue we hope to highlight the social impacts of this crisis and the subsequent growth of online activism. The peace and humanitarian angle should be coupled with a gendered analysis in order to fulfill the rights of the people affected by large-scale emergencies, such as CoVid-19.
