Faces Up Uganda
Community Mentorship Uganda
Location: Kampala (Uganda)
We are a youth-led NGO based in Kampala, Uganda. We offer mentorship to young people (6-19 years) through creative arts, enabling them to become more creative, confident, critical thinkers, and compassionate. Additionally, we inclusively empower children to take a driver’s seat in bettering their lives by transforming their artworks into lifestyle accessories that are sold to enable children to raise their own school fees.
In response to Covid-19 we are
Donating essential material support to children in the form of posho, cooking oil, sugar, and soap. We have so fared reached out to 145 families and looking to help 1000 families.
Holding bi-weekly phone calls to talk with the children we mentor since we are no longer in position to meet them physically.
Making face masks for children above 6 years. We witnessed that the masks which were available on the Uganda market were not suitable for children because they were too big and also looked so serious, so we started making masks for their sizes and have a lot of colours to look fun for children.
We also initiated an art contest themed ”Positivity In Times of Difficulties” with an aim of creatively engage children below 15 years during the lockdown. The three winners will be given financial support as school feed for the coming term.
Support
We would like to connect with other agencies/development partners who can donate to us more materials to make more masks. Additionally, we would like to seek assistance in the grants application since there are many opportunities for funding but we have no experience in writing winning proposals. We also seek connections with kind people who would like to fundraise on our behalf in their countries so as to enable us to get more funds to buy more essential materials to donate to children
Our main source of funding is through the sale of the products (crafts, sandals, artworks), that the children produce during our projects. However, Because of COVID-19 the children cannot come into the sessions at the community center, and our finances have been cut. Even the stock we are left with is hard to sell in these times. Therefore this has caused us to fall short of funds to support all the fixed costs that we incur. We are afraid that if this continues this way, we might put our work on hold.
Other Needs: Volunteers, Stores where we can put our products for sale
