Influencers Taking Responsibility

Location: Nigeria

The idea of Influencers Taking Responsibility is originated as result of some people’s perception that COVID-19 is not real, or COVID-19 is not for Africa, or COVID-19 is not for poor and many other theories around the authenticity of COVID-19 in the northern part of Nigeria. Even intellectual individuals have conflicting opinions on the authenticity of the pandemic.

#InfluencersTakingResponsibility is platform that gives community influencers, social media influencers, CSOs leaders and other influencers space to share their perspectives and messages on COVID-19 well as sensitize their followers on the pandemics using our social media channels while providing preventive measures and real-time updates on the number of confirmed cases, number of discharged cases, number active cases and number of deaths in Nigeria. This avoids misinformation, disinformation and fake news on the pandemic as well as gives a heads up to the public on how the virus is rapidly spreading and how real and fatal COVID-19 is.

The challenge of influencers taking responsibility, despite creating massive awareness online using social media channels, is that the majority of the citizens in northern Nigeria are living in rural communities and have no access to social media or internet services. In order to reach rural communities the campaign need go beyond social media to conventional media, especially radio, to reach and larger audiences and have a greater impact.

Support

#InfluencersTakingResponsibility requires intensive live radio programs and jingles to reach grassroots communities, considering radio is the most effective way of disseminating information to the grassroots communities. Furthermore the project involves real-time information sharing on the pandemic, and tracking which involves a lot of data mining, data visualization and logistics support.
