Augment Bionics
UK University start-up provides PPE to front-line healthcare workers
Location: United Kingdom
Augment Bionics Ltd. was founded at the University of Edinburgh in 2019. Around 6 weeks ago our company came together and decided to use our technological and innovative capabilities to help protect the front-line heroes and address the PPE shortage. Originally our capacity was around 50 face shields per day and we were using 3D printers to help our local communities. Since then we have raised over £50,000 through the generous support of so many. We have recruited volunteers who have been essential to our work and are working tirelessly to help us help others. This support has allowed us to move to larger scale manufacturing where we are now distributing 20,000 shields per week. We have delivered face shields to over 50 different hospitals across the UK, and have received positive feedback about our product.
Looking ahead to a point where demand for this equipment (face shields) in the UK has dropped off, we hope to be able to offer our services abroad to countries where the COVID-19 crisis is heightened by lack of access to established healthcare systems and supply chains.
At the core of our company is a group of young leaders who seek to make a difference in a growingly unequal world. During these unprecedented times we are honoured to be able to do our part in helping the true heroes.
Support
We currently have sufficient funds for the next two weeks. We are attempting to donate these shields to healthcare workers for as long as possible. More funds would allow us to continue production and not charge hospitals for this necessary equipment.
