SDG 7 Planet of the Humans Discussion Session - June 3rd

You may have heard about or watched the recent documentary “Planet of the Humans”. It has certainly sparked many discussions among people involved with sustainable energy and we believe that it would be important for the SDG7 Youth Constituency to gather fora discussion about the facts and opinions that the documentary raises.

The objective of the session is to express your response to the content of the documentary and discuss the broader topics of life cycle impacts of energy sources. We hope that you will join the discussion and we would like to invite you to contribute in the following ways:

  • Share papers, publications, or other scientific evidence that addresses the issues raised in the movie in THIS document. The document aims to synthesis a white paper that to be published later on presenting our position at the SDG7 Youth Constituency

  • Email sdg7gfp@unmgcy.org to indicate your interest in delivering an intervention on one of the following topics during the online workshop to summarise the scientific evidence. We will entertain one intervention per topic and they will be followed by discussions on the topics in breakout rooms:

  1. Importance of evaluating the environmental impacts of RE systems

  2. Evidence on energy break-even by RE systems

  3. Evaluation of the feasibility of biomass as a renewable energy source

  4. Importance of managing and/or reducing demand and overall economic growth to meet the energy needs
