SDG 16 Youth Publication is Launched

On the Fourth Anniversary Celebration of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 Youth Peace and Security on December 9, 2019, the Global Youth Caucus on SDG16 is launching its first publication!

In line with the Fourth Anniversary Celebration of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 Youth Peace and Security, the Global Youth Caucus on SDG16 of UNMGCY is launching its first publication!

This initiative is part of the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY), the official UN General Assembly mandated space for the engagement of children and youth at the UN. This first edition showcases the active involvement and the role of young people in engaging in different spaces through meaningful youth participation, sharing knowledge of evidence-informed practices, and contributing to the Peace and Security agenda and other nexus and/or intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder agendas/frameworks in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 16. Launched on December 9 2019, it is meant to contribute to the celebration of the 4th anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 on Youth Peace and Security, which is the first intergovernmental agreed international policy framework that recognizes the positive role young people play in preventing and resolving conflict, countering violent extremism and building peace. The UNSCR 2250 was followed by the Independent Progress Study on Youth, Peace and Security: The Missing Peace (2018) and UN Security Council Resolution 2419 (2018).

We believe that such initiatives help create more engaging and safe spaces for Major Groups and other stakeholders to contribute to sustaining peace processes. This is the product of collaborative efforts within the Global Caucus of SDG16 of the UN MGCY, with the overarching objective to enhance the media through which young people are able to strengthen the science-policy interface. As young peacebuilders, we are at the forefront of the implementation, follow-up, and review of recently adopted sustainable development frameworks and are eager to contribute.
