Background
The World Youth Report (WYR) is a flagship publication of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD). The Report addresses youth development issues around the world.
General Assembly resolution 58/133, and subsequent biennial resolutions including the most recent General Assembly resolution 74/121, mandate the production of the World Youth Report on a biennial basis. The World Youth Report (WYR) is guided by the World Programme of Action for Youth and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The next edition of the World Youth Report will focus on the role of inclusive social policies in improving young people’s mental health and wellbeing. It will bring together new data, insights and lived experience to chart a progressive agenda on the determinants of youth mental health including issues such as, education, work, online environments, family society, etc.. Central to this report are the experiences and perspectives of young people themselves.
Youth Engagement in WYR 2021
This edition of the report has and continues to follow groundbreaking and unprecedented modalities to centre the perspectives of diverse groups of young people, through a partnership between UN DESA and UN MGCY, led by the Global Youth Health Caucus.
The report will be grounded in the perspectives and lived experience of a diverse group of young people, through a consultation mechanism which includes an intergenerational expert group meeting, a global youth survey, focus groups and one-to-one interviews that will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
The consultation approach continues to be co-designed with youth partners and has been developed with the safety, experience and motivation of young people as the most important consideration.
