With more than 840 million people without access to electricity and the energy sector contributing more than 40% of global greenhouse gases emissions, ensuring access to clean, sustainable energy for all is critical. The SDG7 Youth Constituency is a platform for youth to channel their actions and voices in the energy sector, with emphasis on renewable energy sources.

Our Engagement Avenues in the UN
The following processes and avenues at the UN provide spaces for young people to engage in their work on Sustainable Energy
UN Energy
UN Energy is an interagency mechanism within the system of the United Nations related to energy. Its purpose is to create a coherent approach towards a sustainable energy system especially in developing countries to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. To do this, UN Energy reviews energy-related activities within the UN system and tries to mainstream them into a broader approach.
High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)
The HLPF is a subsidiary body of both the United Nations General Assembly and the United Nations Economic and Social Council responsible for the entire organization's policy on sustainable development. It adopts negotiated declarations, reviews commitment and the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
IRENA is an intergovernmental organisation mandated to facilitate cooperation, advance knowledge, and promote the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. It is the first international organisation to focus exclusively on renewable energy, addressing needs in both industrialised and developing countries.

Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)
SEforALL is an international organization working with leaders in government, the private sector and civil society to drive further, faster action toward the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7, which calls for universal access to sustainable energy by 2030, and the Paris Agreement, which calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit climate warming to below 2° Celsius.

Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21)
REN21 is a think tank and a multistakeholder governance group which is focused on renewable energy policy.REN21's goal is to facilitate policy development, knowledge exchange, and joint action towards a rapid global transition to renewable energy. REN21 brings together governments, non-governmental organisations, research and academic institutions, international organisations, and industry to learn from one another and advance the adoption of renewable energy.
