The Ocean Conference, was the first United Nations conference on this issue and aimed to present a unique and invaluable opportunity for the world to reverse the precipitous decline of the health of the oceans and seas with concrete solutions.
The Call to Action specifically recognizes the role of young people in the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The formal follow up and review of the process takes place at the HLPF and associated avenues. In addition, the follow up conference in tentatively planned in 2019. The UNMGCY engages in the process through the institutional space coordinated by DESA for the follow up and review activities of the process.
