UN MGCY will be presenting the closing statement at the Third Asia-Pacific Day for the Ocean hosted by ESCAP. We aim to highlight the urgent need for protecting and sustaining our oceans and place emphasis on the importance of active youth participation and strong intergenerational partnerships for successfully shifting from the “oceans we have” to the “oceans we want.”

ESCAP has organized its Third Asia-Pacific Day for the Ocean to continue to support member States, and key stakeholders, through systematic and inclusive dialogue on priority areas and challenges for the ocean in our region. In line with resolution ESCAP/76/1 on “Strengthening cooperation to promote the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific” the event will feature four interactive dialogues on:

a) Fostering tourism and fisheries for sustainable development;

b) Sustainable maritime connectivity;

c) Ocean accounts, data and statistics;

d) Solutions for land-based marine pollution.

We are also delighted to announce that Ms. Priyanka Prakash , our Asia-Pacific Regional Focal Point will be representing the Ocean Constituency and broader UN MGCY in this event as a Youth Representative.

Please join and be virtually engaged in these conversations to identify solutions to the challenges of the marine environment, as we all prepare for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
