RICS’s REPORT & PETITIONS TOWARDS COVID-19 PREVENTION IN RWAMWANJA REFUGEE SETTLEMENT
SYNOPSIS OF REFUGEE INNOVATION CENTRE ANTI-COVID-19 CONTRIBUTION REPORT
Refugee Innovation Centre is an impact and profit earning project initiated by Olivier Nkunzurwanda as a community and media response to correct and leading the community’s behaviors using arts, media and legal clinic.
The World is experiencing a global economic and social crisis as effect of a killing Wuhan pandemic Disease called “Coronavirus since 2019, December. As per now, the World counts more than 1.2 Million infections and more than 66,000 death tolls as highlighted by World Health Organization’s statistics. In Uganda, 48 cases were tested positive and more than 900 tests are being done to update the health status of Ugandan people on the deadly virus COVID_19.
This Pandemic Disease found Uganda possessing more than 1.3 million refugees from Different countries notably DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Burundi, Kenya and others. The latter are settled in Camps and Settlements In different parts of Uganda. Refugees are also considered as one of most targeted groups of people exposed to the deadly COVID-19 as it remarkably emphasized by World Health Organizations and UN-High Commissioner for Refugees.
Refugee Innovation Centre, after understanding the quickest spreading COVID_19 Might have in refugee camp especially at its base Rwamwanja, we initiated ways of creating awareness using an Audio, Video and graphic for people attending Social Media, people with smart phones and Computer in and out of Rwamwanja.
Refugee Innovation Centre has created a Whatsapp Group (23 members) as a channel of interactive views containing questions, answers and guidance towards the prevention and quitting the spreading of COVID-19 in and out of Rwamwanja.
RIC has used its own Facebook Page (which is highly liked and viewed by 65% of Rwamwanja Youth and 35% are people from different parts of the World whereby East African Residents are highly contained). 12 posts enclosing graphics, videos and song written and sang by Rwamwanja Youth members Duduman and Moze related to COVID-19 were displayed and viewed by more than 3500 people around the World as we post and share to different Facebook groups and Twitter.
