About HLPF

High Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the central platform for the UN to assess progress on the 2030 Agenda (and associated frameworks / sustainable development broadly), exchange of experiences, identify gaps and share lessons learned. It provides a participatory and integrated follow-up and review platform at the global level (with many regional, thematic and substantive meetings feeding into it). Several youth constituencies and groups have already been involved in these preparatory processes.

This year (2024) HLPF will take place from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 15 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024 as part of the High-level Segment of the Council. The last day of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC will be on Thursday, 18 July 2024.

The theme will be "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. (A/DEC/77/553)

The HLPF in July 2024 will be the first HLPF under the auspices of ECOSOC after the 2023 SDG Summit - the HLPF convened under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2023. The 2024 HLPF will support the implementation of the Political Declaration and other outcomes of the SDG Summit for advancing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. Other events, including Side Events, VNR Labs, Special Events, and Exhibition will be organized on the margins of the 2024 HLPF.

Participation of Major Groups and Other Stakeholders

The modalities of participation of the Major Groups & Other Stakeholders (MGOS) including MGCY remain the same as per the Resolution 67/290. This is a very critical year as it marks the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda and the SDG implementation. It will serve as a stocktake of the global progress on achieving the SDGs, given the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, taking place in conjunction with several key thematic processes scheduled in 2023. We as the youth constituency are coordinating with the UN and the MGoS Coordination Mechanism to facilitate and ensure meaningful participation of young people.

Accreditation Request

We are pleased to share that following discussions with the UN, youth registrations for the HLPF July 2024 can be facilitated under the MGCY “umbrella” accreditation. Registration page on the UN website is available on the link here. We are also pleased to share that MGCY OPs are directly able to approve registrations on the Indico.

While there is no defined limit on the number of youth that can be accredited under the umbrella, we would like to express interest from young people that would like to participate at the HLPF and need accreditation.

If you are planning to come to the HLPF in July 2024 and need accreditation support from the constituency, please apply through the form below.

First deadline: 15th June 2024
Second deadline: 22nd June 2024
Final deadline: 25th June 2024, 5 pm EST

Upon receiving your details, we will process them within 2-3 days of each of the deadlines and guide you on how you can register on the UN portal under “umbrella” MGCY accreditation after our internal deadline indicated above. Once your registration is approved by the UN, you would be provided with a confirmation email which may also be used for the visa and other purposes. Please note that this is only for the July session of the HLPF and not for the SDG Summit.

Speaking Roles

We are able to nominate MGCY speakers for various plenary sessions (Agenda of the HLPF is here). The selections are being done in cooperation with the broader MGOS mechanism and we will push to maximize youth speakers from the panel and from the floor to the extent possible.
