High Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the central platform for the UN to assess progress on the 2030 Agenda (and associated frameworks / sustainable development broadly), exchange of experiences, identify gaps and share lessons learned. It provides a participatory and integrated follow-up and review platform at the global level (with many regional, thematic and substantive meetings feeding into it). Several youth constituencies and groups have already been involved in these preparatory processes. This year (2024) HLPF will take place from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. 

The theme will be "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. (A/DEC/77/553)

Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) facilitates participation of young people at the HLPF.

Youth Blast:

Building on our previous practices at HLPF, UNGA and related meetings -  MGCY will host a Youth Blast prior to the conference, in-person in New York. 

The Youth Blast is free to participate and will serve as a crucial youth-led space for capacity building and skill sharing, networking, strategic discussion and fostering new collaborations, as young people finalize their preparations for the HLPF. The following key objectives are intended from the Youth Blast session:

• Provide youth, especially those new to the UN process, a briefing and capacity building about the UN system, ECOSOC processes, Agenda 2030 and what to expect in the coming days

• Provide thematic and regional updates on key processes feeding into HLPF

• Discuss about youth-led events, activities, peaceful marches/protests and related foras during the Forum

• Dedicate time toward drafting / finalising youth interventions  

• Strategic planning on how youth participation and engagement at the HLPF can be maximised, such as planning for key bilaterals, finalising schedule, etc

• Strategies to share knowledge with young people in their communities to amplify the impact of discussions with those beyond the Forum

• Overview and interlinkages with Summit of the Future 2024 and World Social Summit 2025.

Therefore, we strongly encourage you to participate if you are coming to the HLPF!

Finally, note that registration on this form does not automatically mean confirmation. A confirmation email with further logistical details will be sent to the confirmed participants.  

No funding is provided for participation at the Youth Blast.
