Background
The UN Water Conference 2023 will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York (USA) from 22-24 March 2023, co-hosted by the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands. The Conference will focus on the “Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, ‘Water for Sustainable Development’, 2018–2028”.

The Conference will take a multi-sectoral approach - putting a spotlight on the sustainable development and integrated management of water resources for the achievement of social, economic and environmental objectives, the implementation and promotion of related programmes and projects, as well as on how to best strengthen cooperation and partnerships at all levels. It will feature an opening and closing ceremony, six plenary meetings and five multi-stakeholder interactive dialogues. It will also feature a number of high-level special events and side events organized by Member States, the UN system and other stakeholders. Funded Spots for Youth Participation
UN DESA (which serves as the secretariat for the Water Conference) has reached out to MGCY for nomination of upto 10 youth for funded participation at the Conference. We have been asked to nominate upto 13-15 people in the order of priority and the UN will then make final decision of the list of 10 youth to be funded from the MGCY nominees. The funding will include return air ticket and DSA (which will cover costs for accommodation, food, local transport, etc.) and is targeted toward enhancing participation of youth from the global south in the process.

Regarding visa
Please note that MGCY team will work with UN and the US Department of State (DoS) to help expedite the visa of the selected youth, noting that it is upto the Embassy in each country to issue a final decision on the visa.

We have a short deadline to get back to DESA with the details of youth nominees. Therefore, we invite interested youth to please fill out the brief application form below, which also contains details on the selection process.
