The Nairobi Youth for Sustainable Development (NYSD) is a team of young people strengthening platforms for policy engagement, leadership development and volunteerism to improve the economic and social well-being of youth. The mandate of NYSD is to identify avenues and strategies to strengthen county youth networks to improve youth participation in decision making, policy development and increase interest in social accountability processes. Its main thematic areas that NYSD work on are; Governance, Economic empowerment, Environment and Climate Action and Health.

With the current Covid-19 situation, we thought it better to use the team's combined social media power to fight COVID 19. This is by encouraging people with creative and impactful behaviour change messages that could used in spreading word of ways to fight this pandemic. We believe in creating awareness and spreading word on ways of adapting to the current situation, by; creating common short messages and have the team shares across all social media platforms including KSL video clips with the same messages for inclusion purposes.

We come up with a unique hashtag (#VolunteersAgainstCovid19) that will be used across some social media platforms (Facebook's, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and any other known by volunteers) when sharing out our messages, new key messages are shared after every 24hrs. This has enabled the team to keep track of the he reach in some of these platforms.

Community social mobilization is very key. For NYSD to achieve this, involvement of volunteers will enable information outreach to the deepest parts of the informal settlements. We have also recorded key messages/posters in different languages with consideration of the diversity of the people in Nairobi ,then played it through puplic address systems across the city.
