Food Distribution, Medical Checkup and Education
Location: India
Food: In India, the mostly affected segment is of daily wagers. They don't have enough savings to deal with this situation. I used some of my savings and with contributions from donors we bought flour, rice and vegetables. They were distributed to the most vulnerable societies of my city. We have been able to distribute 700 kg of wheat flour, 350 kg of potatoes, 100 kg of pulses and are working on arranging cooking oil now. Around 150 families have been benefited with this.
Medicine: Since the government hospitals are flooded with corona patients they are not able to cater to OPDs. We have contacted with smaller private nursing homes where the needy people can get treated at a very less fee and have asked the doctors to charge for medicine only and waive consulting fee. We have support from 2 nursing homes for now and approximately 50 patients have availed this benefit. Since we have restricted movement I am unable to spread it further.
Education: We have started classes for underprivileged children through WhatsApp. We have prepared a curriculum and catering to 15 children only for now (who can manage an internet connection) we are covering topics like 'calendar' , counting in English, seasons an weather etc.
Support
At present we can manage only 70-100 families in Agra. Since the lockdown has further stretched to 3rd May these daily earners will be facing a tougher time. I have incurred a total expenditure of ₹ 34000/- till now and can manage upto ₹50000/- . Based on the circle of workforce i have, we manage to cater to 200 families. Currently we haven't taken any donation and are managing through personal funds only.
For 200 families, another 90 days will require around 2000kg flour (₹ 64000), 400 kg rice (₹28000), 400 litre oil (₹48000), 1000 kg potatoes (₹10000). Total ₹150000 . This is the basic ration that we are providing hence these products are mentioned.
We can help the doctors who are assisting in medical treatment of underprivileged segment by buying general medicine as they are only waiving their personal checkup fee. Some common medicine include- paracetamol , ibuprofen, dressing kits, sanitizers, avil, antibiotics, etc.
For education we are managing without any monetary cost.
