Stay Home and Develop Initiative
Location: Nigeria (Oyo state, Ibadan)
Stay Home and Develop Initiative was established as a response to the novel pandemic COVID-19 that has led to constraints in mobility and social institutions' lockdown. The government directive on lockdown to curtail the spread of the virus has led to youths staying home idle. Hence, the need to ensure continuous development of youths through online skill trainings for free. This was the drive for the establishment of the Initiative.
SHDI have created a platform for youths to grow and develop while staying home, a chance to outrun the challenges of a lockdown. The initiative matches volunteer skill trainers with hundreds of interested youths in the proposed training for free. SHDI since its inception, has organized over 5 online skill training sessions, and over 100 youths have benefitted freely from this opportunity.
Our previous sessions and training could be found at shdinitiative.wordpress.com
Support
The initiative needs help: $550, this is to give incentives to poor youths that have been affected by the lockdown and can not afford daily meals. Also, the initiative needs to manage the online training sessions as the budget fund has been exhausted. The online sessions, which require heavy data subscription, are essential for the functioning of the initiative, and considering our financial incapability, we have been rendered incapable to conduct training sessions.
SHDI have started seeking funds from other larger organizations, while others promised and failed, some did not give feedback, we are still hoping to secure one.
Other needs: Volunteers, Space for online meetings
