Help for the Youth for the Youth (HEY)

Location: Uganda (Mbarara western region)

Youth, being about 75% of our population, are un-employed and most of them end up on streets, bars, and in petty jobs. We have for two years now been helping them by giving them vocational skills that have resulted into self employment and provide reproductive health information and services. However, during this lock down many are going without food, water and reproductive health is deteriorating because movements are limited. These young people mostly live off daily earnings with no savings. Many of them are going to die of either disease, hunger, violence, crime, HIV/AIDS or crude methods of abortion.

Support

We need emergency food for the young people, extensions of reproductive health services and information dissemination about COVID19 prevention strategies.

We currently have a budget short fall of $50,000. We had started local fundraising for food hand outs and radio talk shows but it covered little, and we lacked clear transport means to reach the far youth.

We are going ahead to lobby the government to also give young people support. Our focus now is about families, yet these young people mostly live on their own.

Other needs: Volunteers, Access to information, Some free family planning commodities
