Youth vs Corona
Location: South Africa (Ekhuruleni, Gauteng)
Youth Health Africa is based in South Africa and operates in over 250+ communities. The Youth vs Corona initiative is currently being implemented in Ekhuruleni, Gauteng where all the essential care packages are being distributed. The awareness initiative occurring on all our social media platforms. The Youth vs Corona initiative aims to mobilize South Africans together with Youth Health Africa and The Aurum Institute and make it their call-to-action to support vulnerable families in their communities.
We are supporting these families through the distribution of supply packages filled with essential items to support their families during the national lockdown and social distancing period. Our partnership with the Ekhuruleni Social Development department ensures that families who are in need of these packages are identified and prioritized in receiving these essential packages. These packages will be able to sustain a small family of four members for a period of 10 days, and thus encourage benefactors to adhere to the national lockdown regulations. To reach to the initiative’s target of 10 000 packages, the initiative has partnered with FeedSA in assisting with the distribution of 1000 packs in Ekurhuleni over the next two weeks. When this target is achieved, over 40 000 lives will have been empowered with these essential packages.
To reach as many families as possible, it will be important that we form as many partnerships as possible for donations to procure these essential supplies.
Support
To date, the Youth vs Corona initiative has raised over R100 000 of which R76 000 has been used to compile 238 packages which were distributed in April. Each package costs R320 to assemble and contains household essential items like maize meal, milk and cleaning materials and personal hygiene products like soap and sanitary pads, protective wear such as masks and hand sanitizers and an infographic of preventative measures.
Financial assistance will ensure that more families become benefactors of the initiative and are able to stay at home during COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa and continue to practice good hand hygiene.
