Introduction of Nyali Zambia
Nyali Zambia is a youth led non-governmental organization which aims at promoting and improving male involvement and participation in key activities that enable males to be positive agents of change in society. We believe Gender justice is not possible if male participation in efforts to promote gender justice is lagging behind. We focus mainly on breaking stereotypes, challenging negative social, health and sexual behaviors and attitudes that endanger their mental and physical health as well as the health and development of women and girls.
We are a startup organization that was founded by two female Zambian youths, Angela Ngulube and Tina Zambika in 2018. The organization registered in 2019 with a local voluntary board and Zambian youths as voluntary Staff. Our voluntary staff consists of committed and qualified individuals who are all graduates of different fields ranging from social sciences to accountancy studies, from highly recognized institutions.
CURRENT INITIATIVE: PHUNZISA MWANA
The unexpected Covid-19 pandemic has hit and affected the world in more ways than one. One of the economic sectors that have been hit hard is the education sector. Schools have closed in over 186 countries in the world impacting over 90% of the world’s children. The Zambian government has temporarily closed learning institutions in an attempt to contain the covid-19 pandemic and this has had an immediate impact on the education system and learners. To date, learners have been out of school for a month plus. While e-learning has become an option, not all learners have access to E-learning platforms due to unavailability of gadgets and internet access. In 2019 only 29.6% of Zambians had access to the internet. Consequently, this entails that some learners, especially those from poor backgrounds, might have little or no access to educational material within their homes.
Nyali Zambia is implementing an initiative which is aiming at promoting education needs of vulnerable children during COVID-19 period. Our hope is to enable economically disadvantaged children to return to school and catch up easily. Through this initiative we hope the trickle-down effects will encourage more children to be interested in school and enroll after schools open post COVID-19. The initiative will therefore involve the collection of school materials through a community participatory approach in which people who have material to share can make donations; monetary form allowed. Nyali has so far recognized four community schools in Mtendere which will be a target beneficiary of the intervention, Grades 0ne (1) to Seven (7) in particular.
We are yet to make our first donation to one community school in July 2020. We planned to reach four community schools but unfortunately we cannot meet our target because of restricted resources, we have not receive enough donations, we have however raised some funds which we feel we can use (Put together a small package for each child) and go ahead with one school and hopefully as we continue to en-devour we will reach out the other target beneficiaries.
Support
We have a budget of $4,000. We are missing both monetary and material donation of books, and any educative material that would help children stay academically engaged and improve their basic writing and literacy skills in general. We have taken a community participation approach were we are asking for donations form community members who have the ability t share with us either in monetary form or material form.
