Rapid response in addressing community impacts of COVID-19
Location: Malawi (Lilongwe)
As the Coronavirus outbreak continues to spread across the world African nations are reporting an exponential increase in a number of cases and more and more infections are registered in countries with endemic poverty in our continent. Malawi as a nation has been hit hard, leading to increased reports of suffering, crying and hunger from most vulnerable groups and the streets. The vulnerable group which includes the elderly, street kids, prisoners, single mothers and children this has prompted the 146th Commonwealth's Point of Light award winner to collaborate with COMYODS Mentors health professionals and My community My responsibility organizations to the challenge.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Reducing COVID-19 related morbidity and mortality among people the vulnerable
Reduce the local transmission and spread of COVID-19 among vulnerable group thereby minimizing the strain on health care facilities.
Increase the access and uptake of face-mask
Combat hunger by feeding street kids
Our challenge is to get the resources to support our work. We are asking people of good will to join our challenge by donating any financial or resources including food, clothes, protective equipment, to feed the vulnerable.
Support
Our budget its $20,000. The project is on going, we support with food items in-order to reduce the social-economic impact of COVID and with clothes and protective equipment (masks, hand sanitizers). At the moment we are using our contributions and well wishers who are supporting us, that's why we are opening up to the corporate world for support. Our great achievements is that we have managed to feed over 500 elderly people and 400 street children, but we believe with enough resources we can each out to more.
