Asia-Pacific Regional Call to Action 2023: APFSD Youth Forum Amplifies Youth Voices in the Region

On 18-20 March 2023, the Asia-Pacific Youth Caucus of Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY), represented by Ms. Sharifah Norizah Syed Ahamad Kabeer, the Regional Caucus Coordinator (Asia-Pacific), engaged in the APFSD Youth Forum 2023 processes as one of the Co-convenors of the forum alongside Y-PEER, YouthLEAD, and UNEA-CYMG and Right Here Right Now. This forum was led by the Asian-Pacific Resource & Research Centre for Women (ARROW) as the main convener, under the supervision of Ms. Sai Jyothirmai Racherla (Sai) as the Deputy Executive Director of ARROW.

The APFSD Youth Forum reflected a unique and intersectional group of 300 young people, activists, and advocates from 36 countries across the Asia-Pacific region; who shared their voices in interactive panel sessions from invited UN speakers and youth speakers from the region, and also in the in-depth country discussions across all SDGs under review this year.

This APFSD Youth Call to Action embodies their demand for sustainable, inclusive, and human rights-focused solutions, with a focus on the #SDGs under review for this year - SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG17 (Partnerships for the Goals), along with SDG3 (Health (Gender Equality).

The recommendations of the APFSD Youth Forum will be incorporated into APFSD 2023 and the Regional Breakout Session (Asia-Pacific) of the ECOSOC Youth Forum (EYF) 2023, which will take place on April 26, 2023. Stay tuned!
