Digital Activism: Youth for Peace and Justice

Location: Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

This is a 20 hours online-based course to connect young people from different backgrounds and realities to discuss the challenges of Human Rights in Rio de Janeiro Favelas during and after this pandemic. To be addressing human rights, and new narratives would be even more empowering in such challenging times, where favelas and marginal groups are being disproportionally impacted by the coronavirus. We are facing the rise of police violence in some areas, domestic violence, and lack of basic resources as food and hygiene materials. The course provides young people the ability to use the internet as a tool to denounce violations, create responses and share solutions that address the indirect impacts caused by the coronavirus pandemic. It is an effort of capacity building in Human Rights and policy design implementation to those who being disproportionally impacted, and not included in the priorities of authorities and traditional networks.

Support

The classes could be made available online if we had more resources for editing and designing an online platform to organize the classes and materials. By next month we also want to produce videos telling the narratives of young people fighting against the Corona Virus and for Human Rights in their communities, the support to edit, and share the content would be really helpful.

Other needs: Access to information, More visibility of the youth perspectives about the Coronavirus in favelas
