Project Feed the Vulnerable (PFV)
Location: Nigeria (Enugu State)
Our organization believes in addressing the various challenges affecting children, youth, women, and disabled groups. Our vision statement is “To be a civil society organization role model in providing voice and services to the less privileged and vulnerable segments of the society”. Our mission statement is “To promote quality service delivery that would improve the living conditions of the people while ensuring true partnership, accountability, and good governance”.
We have duly embarked on a food and personal protective equipment (PPEs) distribution campaign here in Enugu State. This campaign has also been duly tagged: Project feed the vulnerable (PFV). The motivation behind this project is the high rate of hunger amongst families here in Enugu State. This is most especially with regard to women and girls. In Enugu State, women and girls are discriminated against and made to feel inferior right from birth. This is because of the huge patriarchal attitudes and mindsets that currently exist in Enugu State. These patriarchal mindsets and attitudes have affected women and girls physically, mentally, socially, economically, and otherwise. When the COVID-19 issue started women and girls were affected the most. Currently, in Enugu State, offices, markets, schools, and churches have been closed and lockdown is being exercised throughout the state. This has affected the economic life of most residents especially women. We are constantly motivated by the experiences of our community members who are being unable to provide food to their children.
We have so far distributed 120 bags of rice, 120 hand sanitizers, and 120 facemasks here in Enugu State, Nigeria. We have carried out this campaign in three communities here in Enugu State. These communities include Ikirike, Idaw-River, and Akwuke communities of Enugu State, Nigeria. This has had the short-term effect of providing 120 beneficiaries with foodstuffs and essential PPEs. Also, this has had a long-term effect of ensuring that beneficiaries had up to a one-month supply of food and other PPEs. In carrying this out, we partnered with Rockflower: an organization based in the United States (US). They helped fund these projects in these communities. In addition, we partnered with some other youth-led and food distribution organizations here in Enugu State. These organizations included: Town Crier Initiative and Inspire Education Initiative. We are committed to this campaign and with your help, we hope to do more.
